Our Story | Brett Ineson

Meet the team of industry veterans who’re forging the future of new-way storytelling.

Brett has been in the business of 3D animation production for 25 years, with the previous 15 focused on performance capture. Now as co-founder and Executive Director, Brett brings his expertise to form Shocap Entertainment.

With two people working in the same industry that had similar interests, boosted with longevity in real-time animation, Brett and Athomas share a love for live production, theatre, and circus. Between them they have the resources to create something special, and industry partners, such as Epic Games, believed in the duo’s vision, providing the Epic Mega Grant to help finance the company’s projects.

Collaboration between different creative industries is key for Shocap

Shocap was never meant to be just our vision – it was designed to be a collaborative company from day one. Our vision as a business is to bring our technology and know-how to live theatre. Our mission is to work with many creative partners who are eager to bring their stories into the fold.

Shocap Entertainment is the future of live experiences

We wish to create as many live experiences as we can, and I can see us having an impact on live performance in general for sure – I’m blown away by the technological possibilities available to us now. I can only imagine what an audience member without our computer science background might think when they see what we are doing!

Audiences can expect that we won’t be cheating – everything will be performed live! They can also expect great stories. Hopefully, our viewers are so immersed in the story that they won’t even have time to fully take in the visual experience until they see the show for the third time.

Predictions for immersive performance in 2021 and beyond

Immersive did get overhyped, I am the first to admit – however, I believe that we will see continuous growth. The experiences are improving and the hardware is getting better every day. At some point all shows will have elements of real-time technology in the future, eventually by not implementing real-time, it will become a classic style in itself. Immersive has been a little slower than the early adopters hoped for, critical mass is coming, probably not in 2021 – but it’s not too far away.
